Tampa, Florida -- One of Tampa's most iconic landmarks has a new owner.
The Rivergate Tower, better known to locals simply as the "beer can building," was sold for nearly $60 million, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports.
New York-based Mount Kellet Capital Management reportedly bought the office tower from In-Rel Properties.
The Business Journal reports:
When In-Rel bought the building [in 2011], it was more than half empty, but it had reached nearly 80 percent occupancy after Butler Pappas leased three floors in the tower this spring. In-Rel invested $3 million in upgrading the building and took an aggressive approach to dealmaking to win leases, CEO Mukang Cho told the Tampa Bay Business Journal in July 2013.
The cylindrical, 31-story Rivergate Tower was built in 1988 and holds the distinction of being the tallest limestone structure in the world.
