St. Petersburg, Florida -- On Friday, the city of St. Petersburg invites the public to attend "Celebrating the St. Petersburg Pier: Honoring the Past, while Pursuing the Future", an event to say goodbye as we honor and memorialize the Pier that has served St. Petersburg since 1973.
The event takes place at St. Petersburg's Spa Beach and the Dolphin Parking lot on the Pier approach east of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, from 5 to 7 p.m. There is no cost to attend the event. Parking is also free at the Dolphin Lot, north of the pier approach
At the event, there will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m. by Mayor Rick Kriseman. City Council members and the Pier Selection committee will be recognized with a commemorative, etched glass block from the Pier.
Brick pavers, also from the Pier, stamped with the image of the inverted pyramid, will be provided to attendees. Two hundred and fifty pavers will be given to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, postcards with a print of an original watercolor of the Pier by Milton Howarth will be given to citizens who attend the event.
The St. Petersburg Museum of History and Great Explorations, Children's Museum will be on hand to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to write a farewell message, or videotape thoughts about a special Pier memory. Children may create a picture or write a goodbye message on a large banner.
