St. Petersburg, Florida – Raquel Ferreira has been digging volleyball since she was 10 and living in Brazil. She's now a St. Petersburg resident and a pro beach volleyball tournament in her own backyard really has her smiling.
She's looking forward to competing before a hometown crowd at Spa Beach.
"It's going to be an amazing tournament; I'm so, so excited," says Ferreira, who runs a beach volleyball academy in the city.
The event runs Friday through Sunday and besides cheering for Ferreira, spectators will have a chance to watch stars like three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser serve, spike and set.
Ferreira advises be prepared for the heat (wear a hat and sunscreen) and a whole lot of fun. "For me, beach volleyball is a lifestyle…it's very fun; people will love it."
