LAKELAND, Fla. — One Polk County family has a unique story to tell after they welcomed their newborn baby in the parking lot at the sheriff's office, the agency said in a news release. Talk about a baby who knows how to make an entrance!
Around 7:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, couple Micah and Diam were rushing to the hospital so Diam could give birth to their child. Despite waiting nine months to enter the world, their baby decided she didn't want to wait any longer.
Thankfully, while not close enough to the hospital, the couple was able to make it to the Polk County Sheriff's Office Southwest District Office in Lakeland and pull into the parking lot.
A sergeant with the sheriff's office noticed the car outside of the office and went to investigate. As he approached the car, Diam reportedly turned toward him holding her brand new, "itty-bitty" baby girl.
The sheriff's office said the sergeant quickly radioed for Polk County Fire Rescue crews to assist. A K-9 deputy stepped in to give Diam some "helpful assistance" while the sergeant got a couple of handmade quilts, donated by community members, for both mom and newborn.
Fire Rescue crews shuttled Diam and her baby to the hospital. Deputies later paid the family a visit and showered them with gifts including some newborn essentials, a $100 gift card and a talking Sheriff Grady Judd doll.

The sheriff's office didn't reveal the name of the baby girl, but said deputies gave their two cents.
"We think the baby should have been named Southwest, in honor of the Southwest District. After all, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian named their kid North West. But alas, the proud parents already had a name picked out."
