WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The city of Winter Haven has a new fire chief in town.
On Monday, officials announced Drew Neubrand would be assuming the position, succeeding Chief Joseph "Sonny" Emery who is retiring at the end of January.
The city believes Neubrand will build on Emery's foundation with "his dedication, expertise and vision for the future of fire service in Winter Haven."
Drew Neubrand currently serves as Haines City fire chief and previously served as battalion chief. Before that, Drew spent 13 years with the Reedy Creek Fire Department as both captain and assistant chief of training. He has also worked with the Winter Springs Fire Department and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
"Drew brings the experience, leadership, and community connection that make him a perfect fit for the Winter Haven Fire Department," City Manager T. Michael Stavres said in a statement. "I’m excited to welcome him to the team and confident that his passion for service and ability to inspire others will help our Fire Department continue its tradition of excellence."
Neubrand has lived in Winter Haven for eight years and is said to be an active member of the community alongside his family.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the outstanding men and women of the Winter Haven Fire Department and further establish it as the premier fire department in the State," Neubrand said in a statement.
City leaders anticipate Neubrand to begin his role sometime in January.
A celebration for Chief Emery's career will be announced as his retirement approaches. He spent 26 years serving Winter Haven.
