Polk sheriff: 2 people killed, at least 4 seriously hurt in US 27 crash

There is no word yet on what caused the crash.

DAVENPORT, Fla. — A deadly crash Tuesday morning in Polk County shut down part of U.S. 27 for several hours.

Deputies responded around 6:07 a.m. to the area of U.S. 27 North near Polo Park Boulevard, which is in Davenport in the Four Corners area. Traffic appeared to be backed up for at least several miles. 

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said five vehicles were reportedly involved in the crash. Two people died as a result of the crash and at least four people were seriously hurt.

The sheriff's office said their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Northbound lanes of U.S. 27 reopened shortly before 11:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said. Southbound lanes were reopened earlier Tuesday morning. 

There is no word on what caused the crash.
