LAKE WALES, Fla. — Polk County residents are being asked to remain patient as debris cleanup continues, two months after Hurricane Milton devastated the region.
Despite efforts, some neighborhoods, including Lake Wales, still await initial debris removal.
County officials attribute delays to contractor shortages following Hurricane Helene and the need for smaller equipment to navigate certain streets.
Deputy Polk County Administrator John Bohde emphasized the county’s vast area and asked for patience, stating, “We understand the frustration.”
An online dashboard and hotline have been established for residents to track cleanup progress and address concerns.
Meanwhile, more equipment is now available, accelerating debris collection efforts.
