POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A man died after he was hit by a driver early Thursday morning on US-92 in Polk County, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The crash happened around 4:44 a.m. on US 92 at Old Dixie Highway, west of Auburndale near Lakeland.
Few details have been released at this time, but the sheriff's office says the man was a pedestrian when he was hit by a driver. The driver stayed at the scene, deputies said.
Traffic issues resulting from the crash investigation hindered some commuters this morning. The sheriff's office says both travel lanes on US 92 were impacted until 8 a.m.
Drivers were encouraged to take an alternate route in the area.
