AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A Polk City man is dead after a crash off Berkley Road in the Auburndale area, a news release said.

Polk County deputies and county fire rescue members drove to 4734 Berkley Road around 10:44 p.m., where they determined 35-year-old James Stewart was dead. No one else was in his white 2010 Ford F150 with him, deputies said.

Officials later determined Stewart was traveling north on Berkley Road when his truck ran off the east side of the road, severing a TECO utility pole, then coming to a complete stop after hitting a large oak tree.

Deputies shut down the road's northbound lanes for about five hours before reopening them.

Further investigation into the accident is ongoing.
