WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Winter Haven Police are looking for the driver of a white Ford Mustang who hit a police cruiser three times before taking off.

The police sergeant was hit from behind while stopped at a red light on Cypress Gardens Boulevard and 9th Street SE at 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

The driver took off before the sergeant could get out of the car, according to a news release. The driver was described as a white man, and there was also a female passenger in the car.

The sergeant and witnesses couldn't get a good look at the occupants due to the tinted windows. Officers and deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office were able to find the car at a house in the Lake Dexter area. Law enforcement saw it had damage to the front and end consistent with the incident.

A woman at the home was identified as the vehicle owner and officials said she was in the car during the crash. Officers said they still have not identified the driver.

Anyone with information regarding this crash or the driver is encouraged to contact the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-401-2256.
