WAVERLY, Fla. — A 22-year-old woman died following a crash on U.S. 27 on New Year's Eve in Polk County, authorities said.
Sheriff's office deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue personnel responded around 9:50 p.m. Sunday to the crash on the highway north of Peace Creek RV Park Road.
Serrina Bielss, who lived in Winter Haven, was identified as the lone driver in the crash. She was taken to an area hospital but died from her injuries, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
It's believed Bielss was heading north on U.S. 27 when she somehow drove off the road, and crossed the median and southbound lanes before crashing into a ditch.
There was no evidence of corrected steering or braking, the sheriff's office said, adding that she was wearing a seat belt.
