WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A man was killed after a crash between a motorcycle and pickup truck in Winter Haven, officials say.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the collision happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Cypress Gardens Boulevard SE and Cypress Gardens Road.
A 46-year-old Babson Park man, who was reportedly heading east on the boulevard on a 2004 Harley-Davidson, started to approach a red light at the intersection. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman who was driving a 2015 Ford F-150, was stopped at a light facing Cypress Gardens Road North.
When her light turned green, police said the woman turned onto Cypress Gardens Boulevard to turn west on that road. However, the two crashed at the intersection and the man was "ejected" from the motorcycle without a helmet on.
The sheriff's office said the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The woman driving the Ford was not injured, officials say.
Authorities said there's no evidence that the motorcyclist tried to brake or avoid the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
