DAVENPORT, Fla. — An 84-year-old man was killed after a crash involving two cars Sunday morning in northeast Polk County.
The crash happened around 8:33 a.m. in the Four Corners area of Davenport, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
Deputies arrived at the scene of the crash on US Highway 27 at Poitras Two Road to find the man with serious injuries. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Osceola County but reportedly died during emergency surgery, according to the sheriff's office.
The other driver, a 27-year-old man, was treated at the scene. During their preliminary investigation, deputies found that the 84-year-old tried to turn left onto Poitras Two Road. While making the turn, he crossed into the path of the 27-year-old before he was hit.
Both men were reportedly wearing their seatbelts, and the crash closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 27 for around three and a half hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
