LAKE WALES, Fla. — One person was killed and four others, including an infant, were transported to the hospital as trauma alerts after a serious crash Friday morning in Lake Wales.
The crash involving a pickup truck and an SUV happened just after 11 a.m. on Highway 640 off of Highway 27.
Polk County officials said first responders arrived to find 63-year-old Gesner Souvernance dead inside a silver 2004 Toyota Tacoma.
According to Polk County Fire Rescue, four people in the other car, a black 2003 Ford Explorer, were "heavily entrapped" and needed to be extricated.
Three women and an infant girl were taken to transported via helicopter as trauma alerts.
Traffic homicide detectives say the Ford SUV was traveling east on Highway 640 when it crossed over the center line and hit the Toyota pickup truck head-on.
The deadly crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
