LAKELAND, Fla. — A 33-year-old man died after a motorcycle crash in Lakeland Monday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and members from Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the scene just after 11:00 p.m. at Deeson Road and Kathleen Road.

The sheriff's office said James Brooks III, who was driving a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle at the time, "failed to negotiate a curve" while traveling east on Deeson Road. His motorcycle then left the south side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Officials said bystanders attempted to keep Brooks alive with CPR. Despite life-saving efforts, Brooks died at the scene.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
