LAKELAND, Fla. — A 56-year-old man died after he tried to climb onto a moving dump truck, fell off and was run over.
Polk County Sheriff's deputies received calls from drivers around 10 a.m. Wednesday in the area reporting a man running in and out of traffic waving his arms at drivers near the intersection of Highway 92 and Reynolds Road in Lakeland.
The man attempted to climb up the passenger side running board of a dump truck as it began to accelerate after being stopped at a red light when he fell and was run over, according to deputies.
He died from his injuries.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly three hours, and the investigation is ongoing.
