History was made in Lakeland as Cheryl Edwards was sworn in Monday as the city’s first female fire marshal.
The department says Edwards joined the department in 1994 and has served in a number of roles including being the fire inspector and investigator, since 2008.
“It’s exciting to make history. There are a lot of women that are fire marshals and even chiefs across the county. But for Lakeland this is historic," says Edwards.
She says she hopes her achievements will help inspire other women.
