LAKELAND, Fla. — A 59-year-old woman walking on Kennedy Boulevard died after she was hit by an oncoming car, according to the Lakeland Police Department.
Its driver then took off, police said.
Officers responded just after 11:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Kennedy and Williamstown boulevards on a report of a woman lying in the grassy area of the road, according to a news release.
Police say the woman, a pedestrian, was taken to Lakeland Regional Health, where she later died from her injuries.
It's believed she was heading south on Kennedy Boulevard when a car approached and hit her. The driver took off and, at this time, a vehicle description is not known.
Police shut down the road for a couple of hours as part of their investigation.
