AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A Polk County man was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a driver in traffic — a driver who turned out to be an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol trooper.
It happened just before 4 p.m. Sunday on State Road 570, also known as Polk Parkway.
The off-duty trooper was in civilian attire with his family in his personal car on Polk Parkway when the driver of a red Chevy pickup, later identified as 32-year-old Matthew Reiter, became agitated in slow-moving traffic, according to FHP.
Reiter then reportedly focused his attention on the trooper, speeding up and slowing down while driving alongside the trooper's car.
FHP said the trooper ignored Reiter, but that didn't stop the man from yelling, using hand gestures and, eventually, pulling out his gun and pointing it at the trooper.
The trooper dialed *FHP to report Reiter, although responding troopers were not able to immediately locate him.
FHP was later able to track down the car at Reiter's Auburndale home, where the agency reportedly found five different firearms.
Reiter was arrested and charged with three counts each of unlawful display of a weapon and aggravated assault with a weapon.
