WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A 27-year-old Dade City man has died after ramming into a Ford Focus while riding a motorcycle in Winter Haven, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Country Club Road and Crump Road. The motorcyclist, who was part of a group of five bikers, was reportedly traveling south on County Line Road behind the Ford as it started to make a left turn onto Crump Road.
Authorities said the driver of the Ford had the left blinker on, but the motorcyclist crossed over the double yellow line to try and pass the car. The motorcyclist, however, ended up hitting the driver's side of the Ford and was "ejected."
The sheriff's office said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet but died from his injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
