LAKELAND, Fla. — A 35-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into an SUV Tuesday in unincorporated Lakeland, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. near the Carlton Arms of South Lakeland apartment complex, according to a news release.

Deputies said a 31-year-old woman was heading home to the apartment complex with her two children in her SUV. As she entered the eastbound turn lane going into the complex, 35-year-old Lawrence Schreiber was going west on Shepherd Road on his red Harley Davidson motorcycle, deputies said.

Schreiber ended up crashing into the SUV and died at the scene.

According to deputies, based on evidence and what witnesses told them, the traffic light for westbound traffic was yellow as Schreiber drove down Shepherd Road and turned red before Schreiber entered the intersection.

The SUV driver and her children were not hurt in the crash.
