BARTOW, Fla. — A sergeant who works for the Bartow Police Department is in the hospital after he was hit by a minivan Sunday evening.
At around 7:10 p.m., police officers were investigating a hit-and-run crash in front of a Walmart store on Van Fleet Drive East in Bartow, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
While police were at the scene, a minivan was driving through the area and struck the sergeant, authorities said.
The sergeant was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance as a trauma alert. He is facing non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
