AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A man from Polk County scratched off a big prize while playing the Florida Lottery.
William Black, of Auburndale, bought a LOTERIA GRANDE Scratch-Off game from a Bhadra, Inc. food and beverage store, located off East Lake Avenue in Auburndale, according to a press release.
Black claimed a $1 million prize — the top prize — from the game, choosing to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000. The store where he purchased the ticket will receive a $2,000 bonus commission.
"For $5, immerse yourself in the enchanting world of LOTERIA GRANDE for a chance to win $1 instantly," a press release from the Florida Lottery reads. "This Scratch-Off game offers over $62.1 million in cash prizes, including six top prizes of $1 million. Featuring more than 4.4 million winning tickets, the game’s overall odds are 1-in-3.97."
As of this writing, there were still two of six top prizes remaining.
The Florida Lottery contributes billions of dollars to "enhance education," sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
Since 1988, the Florida Lottery says its games have paid more than $97.1 billion in prizes and created more than 4,100 millionaires.
