Two people -- including a child -- have died in a four-vehicle crash that closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 27 for several hours on Monday afternoon near Patterson Road in Haines City.
The crash also injured six people: 2 adults and four children.
According to police about 4 p.m., Melvalin Bryan of Winter Haven was driving a Mazda CX9 was northbound on U.S. 27 when he crossed the median and sideswiped southbound Lexus drive by Wilfredo Ortiz of Orlando.
Bryan continued northbound and hit a Hyundai Elantra driven by Eric Frazier of Winter Haven, who died at the scene.
The Hyundai then hit a Toyota Camry driven by Shannon Brown of Haines City. The Hyundai came to rest on the hood of the Toyota.
