A 23-year-old man was arrested for a string of burglaries at various buildings on USF's Tampa campus.
Through investigative and intelligence resources, USFPD identified Victor Manuel Guerrero-Martinez as a suspect in recent burglaries at Cooper Hall, Natural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Fine Arts.
On the evening of May 22, the USFPD Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions conducted a joint plainclothes surveillance operation during which they spotted Martinez walking north between the Music Building and the Fine Arts Studio with a large backpack. Uniformed patrol officers immediately converged on him and took him into custody without incident.
The backpack contained several new cameras, which Martinez reportedly admitted to having just stolen from the Fine Arts Building. He has been charged with burglary, grand theft and dealing in stolen property. Additional charges are anticipated.
Martinez has been trespassed from the campus. USF Police says he is not a student at USF.
