Plant City, Florida – The victim and the suspect in Tuesday morning's stabbing and police-involved shooting have been identified.
Plant City Police Officer James Burchett said he was forced to shoot and kill Trung Thanh Do when he saw the 31-year-old stabbing Maria De Los Angeles Ramano in her home at 107 S. Maryland Ave.
The officer reported that when he got on the scene, the carport was on fire and when he looked through a window in the home, Do was attacking the 43-year-old victim.
When Do refused to stop, Burchett said he fired a single shot, killing the suspect before rescuing Romano and two teen girls who were also inside the house.
"I heard a big loud boom just tremendous loudness. It sounded like it was in my bedroom with me," said neighbor Shirley Edwards. "I heard someone yelling get out, get out."
Edwards says Ramano also kept to herself, even installing a now-burned wooden fence after moving in last year.
10 News did some checking and found that Do had priors in Hillsborough and Polk counties or with the Florida Department of Corrections.
The Fire Marshal is handling the investigating into the fire at the home, while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating whether Burchett was justified in the shooting.
While the investigation continues, Burchett has been placed on administrative leave, a normal procedure during any police shooting.
Plant City Police investigators are also looking into what sparked the confrontation.
