DUNEDIN, Fla. — Florida troopers temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 19 at Curlew Road after a tractor-trailer driver fell asleep and crashed, authorities said.

The crash reportedly happened around 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Troopers said the tractor-trailer, carrying palm oil, crashed into a construction area after the driver, a 64-year-old Bristol man, fell asleep. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Work is ongoing to remove the vehicle from the roadway.

Shortly after 1 p.m., FHP said all lanes of U.S. 19 were back open.
