TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue found an elderly man severely burned after a charcoal grill exploded outside his house at Riverside Drive.
The grill explosion happened around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Riverside Drive near N. Pointe Alexis Drive.
First responders found the victim with severe burns to 85 percent of his body surface area. The explosion also caused some damage to the outside of his home and porch.
Bystanders told rescue workers that a neighbor had put the fire out with a garden hose. The victim was flown by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the explosion.
