Sunset Beach enforces new parking prices beginning next week

The once-free Sunset Beach side street parking will now carry a price tag.

TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — Sunset Beach street parking will now charge by the hour as part of a Treasure Island program to encourage visitors to use lot parking.

Effective Monday, July 29, side-street parking at Sunset Beach in Treasure Island will no longer be free, according to a news release. The new fees apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Here are the details of the cost and locations of the charged parking spaces:

  • Side-street parking will now cost $5 per hour through the ParkMobile app.
  • City parking lots cost $3.75 per hour and will be charged through the ParkMobile app.
  • Residents can purchase up to two annual Treasure Island City parking passes for $45 each. The requirements for the yearly passes have not changed and can be found in the parking brochure here.
  • Parking enforcement officers will use license plate reader technology to check plates. Violators will be fined up to $60 for parking infractions.

The city asks visitors to pay close attention to street parking signs. Some side streets allow parking on both sides all week, while others only allow parking on one side of the street during weekends and holidays.

In February, Treasure Island announced its use of ParkMobile to eliminate equipment for on-street metered parking only during weekends and holidays. Now, the metered street parking will be effective during all hours of the week.

The program is being tested in Sunset Beach. It aims to encourage visitors to use city parking lots to ensure safety and allow residents to have unobstructed access to their driveways and properties, according to a news release.
