ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man is facing attempted murder charges after he reportedly stabbed someone at a public library in St. Pete, according to an arrest affidavit.
It happened just before 2:30 p.m. Friday at Mirror Lake Community Library, located off of 5th Street North. According to the affidavit, 28-year-old Tavaris Cunningham was sitting next to the victim in the library's computer area and started to "act erratically."
When the victim reportedly asked Cunningham to calm down, he then proceeded to pull an 8-inch kitchen knife from a bag and then stabbed the victim in the upper right chest area.
"I stabbed him in the heart," Cunningham said to St. Pete police, as written in the affidavit. "I stabbed him in the thigh because he was attacking me."
"I stabbed him above the waist means 25 years to life," Cunningham said to police.
The victim was left with lacerations to his left thigh and left hand, the affidavit states.
Cunningham now faces attempted murder charges and is being held in jail without bond, according to court records.
