ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A serious crash involving a motorcycle temporarily shut down a portion of a busy road Friday morning in St. Petersburg, police said.
The crash happened just after 6:40 a.m. on 4th Street N in the area between 54th Ave. N and 62nd Ave. N.
The St. Petersburg Police Department said a car was making a left-hand turn onto SW Monroe Circle North from 4th Street when a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction struck it.
Police identified the motorcyclist as a 28-year-old man. He was thrown off the motorcycle after a subsequent crash involving a pickup truck that was driving in the same direction.
The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital and is described to be "stable but in critical condition."
For several hours, 4th Street between the aforementioned avenues was shut down in both directions, police said. The roadway fully reopened just after 11 a.m.
An investigation remains ongoing.
