ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — We've got a winner!
A St. Petersburg man is now much richer after the Florida Lottery announced he claimed a $1 million top prize from the $5 Gold Rush Doubler Scratch-Off game.
Charles Kelly Jr., 53, purchased his winning ticket at the Wildwood Meat Market, located in the area of 28th Street South and 13th Avenue South.
Kelly chose to claim his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment, walking away with $685,000. The retailer also received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket.
Florida Lottery says scratch-off game tickets made up around 72% of sales in the 2022-2023 fiscal year. They've generated more than $18.95 billion for education since they were first sold.
