ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to a fire at an apartment complex holding two families Friday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived as rain poured down around 5:50 p.m., the agency said in a news release. Crews reportedly saw large black columns of smoke and heavy fire coming from the rear of the apartment located on 15th Avenue North.
Fire Rescue noticed a bulk of the blaze coming from the roof of the apartment, according to officials. This prompted the call for a second alarm to request additional resources.
The fire was eventually knocked down, but its cause is still under investigation, according to rescue crews.
Crews said all residents at the apartment were evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported, according to firefighters.
Fire Rescue says crews will remain on scene to help the residents find their personal belongings. The Red Cross will provide support as well.
