One arrest made after two separate, deadly shootings in St. Petersburg

Detectives are "actively" investigating both shootings. One shooting suspect is still at large, according to police.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police are investigating two separate deadly shootings in St. Petersburg.

The first shooting happened just after 7 p.m. Thursday near the Three Brothers Market on 16th Avenue South. Police say they found a 34-year-old man, later identified as Marlan Smith, who'd been shot.

He died at the scene, police said. The shooter has not been found.

The second shooting happened overnight Friday in St. Petersburg.

Officers say they were called to Jefferson Circle North near 62nd Avenue North regarding a person shot. When they arrived, police say they found a man, later identified as 31-year-old Justin Baumgardner, by the side of the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

The next of kin was notified for both victims, authorities confirmed.

Police said an initial search of the area for the shooter was "unsuccessful." Just after 8 a.m. Friday, detectives provided an update saying a suspect is in custody and being questioned. According to police, the two men "were known to each other."
