CLEARWATER, Fla. — Snakes are no stranger to Florida, and the U.S. Coast Guard received an unexpected reminder of that.
In a Facebook post, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater revealed one of their officers found a snake hanging around one of their helicopters.
“This unexpected stowaway was found napping on a Jayhawk tailwheel,” the station wrote in the post. “He reluctantly departed the scene when confronted.”
According to a report from the Miami Herald, the snake was found in the facility on Friday, Feb. 9, after Petty Officer 2nd Class Cole Lindvall was doing a post-flight inspection on an MH60 helicopter.
The outlet says Lindvall is not too big on the slithery reptiles and admitted he jumped back when he saw the animal.
The snake was reportedly identified as a two-foot corn snake, which is native to Florida. Experts say they reach four feet in length and also go by the names "chicken snake" and "red ratsnake."
