PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — As strong storms dump heavy rainfall across the Tampa Bay area, some areas are seeing standing water on the roadways. Because of this, several roadways are shutting down to keep people safe.

Just before 8 a.m. Thursday, Clearwater police said Cleveland Street between Belcher Road and Hercules Avenue was shut down due to rising water. Rainfall estimates show some isolated areas may have already seen several inches of rainfall over the last few hours.

Elsewhere, in north St. Petersburg, 10 Tampa Bay photojournalist Bernie Lila captured more standing water on 116th Avenue. Cars were seen driving through the floodwaters. At least one car was seen broken down in the water.

"Turn around, don't drown," Clearwater police said online.

In Largo, Ulmerton Road near the Largo Mall is reportedly shut down because the roadway is flooded.

Treasure Island leaders are also reporting that several roadways are "flooded and impassable."  They did not specify exactly which roads are closed at this time.

Southbound Interstate 275 has been impacted by several crashes, causing major delays for drivers.

Currently, both Pinellas and Sarasota counties have a flood advisory active for those areas.
