More than 5,000 customers lose power as storms move across Tampa Bay

There have been reports of cars stranded in feet of water on the roadways, flooding in homes and power outages across the region.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Widespread thunderstorms brought lightning, downpours and flooding to the Tampa Bay area on Wednesday evening.

There have been reports of cars stranded in feet of water on the roadways, flooding in homes and power outages across the region.

People in the area were urged to use caution as the peak of the storms hits between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Duke, TECO and FPL power outages

Duke Energy

Duke has worked to restore power to the more than 4,000 customers in the Tampa Bay area who experienced outages. As of 11 p.m., there are 648 customers from St. Petersburg to New Port Richey without power. About half of those outages are in the Crossroads Area of St. Pete.

TECO

As of 11 p.m., there are 340 TECO customers without power from Ruskin to Dade City. More than 200 of those outages were reported in the Town N' Country area.

Florida Power & Light

FPL has worked to restore power to the 3,945 customers who saw outages statewide. As of 11 p.m., there are 1,228 power outages in Florida, including 222 in Sarasota County and 29 in Manatee County.
