Police: Man who was trapped in burning car suffered gunshot wounds before crash

There is a reward of up to $5,000 offered for any information on the death of the man.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 26-year-old man has died after he was trapped in a burning car Saturday morning, a media alert from the St. Petersburg Police Department reports.

The crash is now being investigated as a homicide.

Shortly before 3 a.m., a white Infiniti was traveling south on Tyrone Boulevard when Demond Perry lost control of the car near 9th Avenue N.

The car flipped and caught fire, police explain.

Fire Rescue was reportedly able to remove Perry who was trapped in the burning car.

Perry was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening burns and injuries, the police department says. He was in critical condition but has since passed away.

Investigators now say they learned that Perry was shot before he crashed while driving.

There is a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $5,000 being offered for information on Perry's death.

This is reportedly the first homicide in St. Pete in 2022.
