PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Pinellas Park City officials announced the upcoming launch of a new sports park in collaboration with former Florida Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls.
The Sprowls Horizon Sports Park is a state-of-the-art sports complex slated to open in the summer of 2025, city officials said in a news release. The new park reportedly aims to bolster sports tourism in the Tampa Bay area while improving economic growth in Pinellas Park.
"Three years from now, when we're here, it'll be filled with kids and families," Sprowls said in the news release. "It will be a destination for people, not just here in Pinellas County, not just in the state of Florida, but for the nation."
City leaders say the new complex will be a hub for youth baseball and softball teams featuring six "meticulously designed" baseball fields, a full-sized soccer field and an outdoor roller hockey rink.
"It's a big deal for the city of Pinellas Park and the entire region because currently, you're not coming here for the beaches," Pinellas Park City Manager Bart Diebold said in the release. "But this is now a destination. You're coming to Pinellas Park to play baseball and softball."
The Tampa Bay-based Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) will reportedly manage the design and construction of the new building. SFC Founder and CEO Jason Clement said "it's a great joy" to work on the project.
"We've never been able to develop something in Pinellas County, so I'm grateful to our county leadership here as well," Clement said in the release. "These complexes don't just happen- It takes a team, it takes a collaborated effort, and the people being celebrated today truly deserve it."
