CLEARWATER, Fla. — Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will close temporarily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, due to anticipated storms, high winds, and inclement weather, Clearwater city leaders said in a news release.
Festivities will pick up this weekend through Sunday, the last day of the festival.
"We apologize for any inconvenience," the news release said. "The Good News is the weekend forecast for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is looking SANDSATIONAL! The festival goes through this Sunday, April 14."
The festival is a beach-wide celebration of Clearwater Beach featuring more than 14 sand sculptors who create and present their artwork to over 200,000 visitors per year. The sculptors collectively use 1,000 tons of sand from the beach to help raise money for community causes and educational initiatives for Pier 60’s daily sunset festival.
The festival runs from March 29 through April 14. Here are its exhibit hours:
- 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays
- 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays
