ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Family, friends and loved ones gathered Friday in St. Petersburg to lay Pashun Jeffery and her 2-year-old son, Taylen Mosley, to rest.
The joint funeral for Jeffery and Mosley was held at noon at the First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, located at 1900 Gandy Blvd. N.
Jeffery was a St. Petersburg native, according to a GoFundMe set up by Jeffery's relatives, and went to Benito Middle School, Boca Ciega High School and graduated from Northeast High.
"Pashun knew being a single mom would be challenging, but she was determined to provide for her son," the fundraiser said, in part.
"She worked at CVS on 4th and 9th Avenue North, perhaps smiling at you when you visited the store," her family said. "We will miss her smile, joyous laughter, and commentary on life."
Jeffery's family described the 20-year-old's son, Taylen, as a "sweet and happy toddler" who "loved his mom." Her family said when she had a break at work, she would FaceTime Mosley "so that she could spend every moment possible with him."
Jeffery was found dead on March 30 in her apartment at Lincoln Shores Apartments, off of 4th Street North. According to authorities, she had been stabbed more than 100 times. Her family had called earlier that day for a welfare check.
The 2-year-old wasn't in the apartment when Jeffery was found. The search for the toddler began and hours later an AMBER Alert was issued.
The following morning, St. Petersburg police said they had found the child's body inside the jaws of an alligator in Lake Maggiore, located about 13 miles from his mother's apartment.
Thomas Mosley, Taylen's father, was arrested on the night of March 31 for the murders of both Jeffery and Taylen. He faces two counts of first-degree murder.
