PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A 19-year-old man was killed in a crash while riding a motorcycle in Palm Harbor on Thursday evening.
It happened at 7:40 p.m. when Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers say an 85-year-old man from Palm Harbor was driving a van going southbound on U.S. Highway 19.
As the Palm Harbor man turned left at the intersection of Highland Boulevard, he turned into the path of the motorcyclist, an FHP press release explains. That's when the man on the motorcycle crashed into the van.
Authorities say the 19-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died. The driver of the van was hurt but is expected to be OK, with troopers describing his injuries as "non-life-threatening."
The Florida Highway Patrol says that this case "will remain under investigation for some time," adding that charges could be pending depending on what the investigation reveals.
