PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A 20-year-old Georgia man died from his injuries in a high-speed crash late New Year's Eve on U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash scene around 11:40 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 19 at Klosterman Road.

They say the 20-year-old from Grovetown, Georgia, was speeding south in his BMW 335xi when he failed to stop at a red light and crashed into a car driven by a 63-year-old Palm Harbor woman.

Both cars rotated before coming to a rest on the side of the highway, troopers said, adding that the 20-year-old was ejected from his car after it hit a utility pole.

The man and woman were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The man died from his injuries while the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, FHP said.
