SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — A Pinellas County middle school student was arrested on Tuesday after making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting, according to deputies.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says a 14-year-old Safety Harbor Middle School student sent a message to another student on Snapchat saying, "I'm shooting school up tomorrow." 10 Tampa Bay is not identifying the teen because of their age.
Detectives say they spoke to the student, who admitted to sending the message, but said it was meant to be a joke.
The 14-year-old was charged with one count of written threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting.
