75-year-old arrested for DUI after hitting FHP patrol car in Pinellas County, troopers say

Neither the driver nor the trooper were hurt in the crash.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A 75-year-old man was arrested Monday after he reportedly hit a Florida Highway Patrol car while driving under the influence, troopers said.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. Monday in the area of Park Boulevard just west of 141st Street North in the Seminole area. According to FHP, a 75-year-old Ontario man was driving an Audi A4 eastbound along Park Boulevard.

While driving, the man entered a "well-marked construction zone" just west of 141st Street North and hit the passenger side of a marked FHP patrol car that was parked in the left lane behind some traffic cones.

FHP says after the collision, the man kept driving eastbound before being stopped "a short time later" by the trooper whose car was hit.

Neither the Audi driver nor the trooper were hurt during the crash. The damage to both the Audi and FHP patrol car is "considered minor," authorities said.

The man was arrested for DUI and provided a breath sample of 0.092, according to FHP. The legal limit for alcohol in Florida is .08 grams per 100 milliliters.
