LARGO, Fla. — A school crossing guard was hit by a car and taken to the hospital on Thursday morning in Largo, according to the police department.
It happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. when police say the driver was going eastbound on 8th Avenue NW, heading toward Clearwater Largo Road.
The crossing guard was said to be a member of the Largo Police Department. A press release says that they're expected to recover, describing their injuries as "non-life threatening."
The driver who hit the crossing guard stayed on scene. Police say the driver did not show signs of impairment but was issued a citation.
"School crossing guards are hired part-time during the school year and are placed at high-frequency intersections throughout Pinellas County," the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reads.
