ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Officers arrested a Lakewood High School student for bringing a gun to school on Wednesday, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Police say an administrator saw the gun in the 14-year-old's backpack. When they tried to detain the 9th grader, he reportedly dropped the bag and ran off from the campus, located at 54th Avenue South and 16th Street.
The student did not threaten anyone at the school with the gun nor did he show it off, police said.
He faces a charge of possessing a weapon on school property.
