TAMPA, Fla. — An electrical fire on a utility pole caused internet outages on Saturday in Pinellas County.

Lorelie Johnson, a Spectrum spokesperson, said in an email that the fire damaged fiber that delivers services to customers in Pinellas Park. Teams had to wait until a utility company worked on it and deemed the area safe for technicians to fix the equipment.

Internet issues have been happening since this morning starting just after 6 a.m. There have been more than 1,000 reports of outages in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, according to Downdetector.

Customers should see services "come back online over the next couple of hours," she said. Technicians are in the process of working on the issue now.
