SEMINOLE, Fla — One person died at the hospital while another person was seriously hurt in a crash Tuesday night that resulted in a car being split in two, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident started at 9:49 p.m. when a sedan was traveling northbound at a fast speed on Starkey Road while approaching Bardmoor Place in Seminole, troopers said. This is when the 26-year-old man from Largo behind the wheel lost control of the car.

FHP says the car left the roadway, entered the shoulder and struck a guide wire for a utility pole before crashing into a block wall.

The car ultimately split in half, the agency said. The rear half of the car continued northwest, colliding with a tree and two wood fences before coming to a final rest in the backyard of a nearby house.

Both the driver and the passenger, a 30-year-old man from Apalachicola, were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The passenger eventually died from his injuries, FHP explains.

Troopers say both men weren't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
