DUNEDIN, Fla. — A woman is behind bars after deputies say she stole more than $57,000 from the restaurant where she worked.
It all came to a head around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, with the arrest of 44-year-old Ann Milewski. According to the arrest affidavit, the investigation into Milewski started after the owners of Home Plate on the Trail Restaurant were told about "suspicious activity" involving the 44-year-old employee.
After getting the tip, the owners reportedly asked their CPA to investigate what was going on. The CPA reportedly found that Milewski had thousands of dollars in canceled transactions, "significantly" more than her other coworkers.
Over the three days after the discrepancy was discovered, the owners reportedly saw Milewski canceling items on cash orders and pocketing the cash from the register.
The arrest affidavit states the start of Milewski's alleged crime appears to have been around January 2021. From 2021 to the present day, the affidavit noted the estimated funds Milewski allegedly stole "exceeds" $57,000.
After Milewski's arrest, she reportedly said she "didn't know how to explain the discrepancy" and eventually asked for a lawyer.
Jail records show Milewski is charged with scheming to defraud ($50,000 or more) and grand theft (>$20,000 but <$100,000), both felony charges.
